Work It Wednesday - Lexi Corri

Everyone has hit the ground running in 2018 - and we can already tell it's a good year. We've met so many inspiring influencers and entrepreneurs in the past few weeks, it can be hard to keep up. This week, we chose to talk with uber-fashionable self-proclaimed fashion and travel lover, Lexi from @FashionlySo. If you don't want to steal her ENTIRE wardrobe, you'll want to after this read ;).

1. First off, tell us a little about yourself. What got you interested in fashion?

I’m Lexi, a Toronto-based fashion blogger. I’ve been interested in fashion as far back as grade 9 art class when my entire portfolio consisted of outfit designs, however my interest in health care has brought me through school and to dentistry today. I’ve always enjoyed shopping and putting outfits together so I decided to share that side of me more recently through my instagram, @fashionlyso. I’m having so much fun with it!

2. How would you describe your personal style and aesthetic?

My personal style starts with a fairly neutral base with a colour theme that changes depending on the season or where I’m travelling. In Hawaii, that was about metallic pinks against the palm trees. This winter, I’ve really liked a bold red with the grey skies and white snow. I’m planning a trip to Morocco right now and I’m thinking about a dusty rose to go with the desert sand.

3. Your photos are gorgeous! Can you tell us a little about the behind-the-scenes. What goes into the planning and prep for a style shoot?

Thank you! I’ve been fairly busy after graduating, interviews and now working, so I try to plan out my outfits early in the week. It usually starts with a piece I want to showcase or it could come from a place I want to shoot and my outfit is pulled together based on how it works with the background. On the weekends, I sometimes drag bring my boyfriend out in Toronto to take a ton of pictures. After which, I’ll pick about 5-10 that I like. My instaBF is a big part of the process so I’m always looking to get his thumbs up!

I am by no means a model, but I’m trying. I think the most time-consuming factor of it all is planning out my Instagram page. I realized nice pictures only look good if they suit the page. So, most of my time goes into planning where pictures will go and deciding if they blend together nicely.

4. What do you think it takes to stand out these days on social media?

There are so many fashion and travel bloggers out there. It’s not easy! I think it takes someone with a creative eye and attention to detail. On top of that, and this is what I struggle a bit with, is that I think it takes pushing the boundaries and daring to wear something unique.

I often think about outfits I like and when it comes down to shooting, I won’t like a single photo because I wonder what is exciting about this outfit. I’m trying to challenge myself to be more and more creative so that when someone looks at my photo, they have something to take away from it. I’d love to be able to inspire someone to see their own clothes differently that lets them put an outfit together in an entirely new way.

5. What are your favourite photo apps?

I really like Facetune. You can actually zoom in really close and paint over your dark circles under your eyes. That’s a BONUS! Comes in handy some days more than others. I also have been using VSCO filters lately and really like this feature. I’d love to try the presets by Tezza. They’re gorgeous, but I’ve placed myself on a blog budget and these are on the pricier side.

6. Your favourite brands on social media?

Social media has really allowed me to see so many brands that I wouldn’t have otherwise. I love the Lamarque collection. I have this deep red feather coat and it’s just stunning! Makes me want to buy everything they have. I’m always looking for affordable clothes and Missguided and Lulus are great for that. Public Desire has the latest and hottest shoes. I bought these leather mules last summer and wore them through November. I’ve been following L’Intervalle online and was so happy to see them come to Toronto! My next shoe purchase will be from there ☺.

7. Where would you love to see yourself in the next three years?

Within the next 3 years, I’d like to have a website and blog up and running that you can link to from my instagram. I’d love to see myself collaborating with brands that I love and am proud to represent

8. How do you #workit everyday?

By day, I work as a dentist in and around Toronto. I’m very passionate about my work and like interacting with patients. I have a great team of people that make every day enjoyable. Nearly every day, I’m thinking about my fashion… looking for inspiration, putting outfits together in my head. That fashion side of me will always be there and hopefully play a bigger role in the future.
